As I was rummaging through the piles of random artifacts that have been building in my room over break I came across one that was comprised of everything I had accrued from my trip to the PRSSA Nat'l Convention. This semester, I am largely focused on my Spanish major as I am trying to get out of college in a reasonable time frame and am enrolled in my final PR focused course. Happening upon these pamphlets of information about agencies, colleges, etc., that had somehow gone missing for the better part of two months, reminded me where my mind should be during my last semester. How do I want to apply everything that I have learned? Who do I want to work for?
I find PR fascinating, but recognize that it can potentially provide large amounts of power. Some people don't need power. I don't have a beef with consumerism or corporations, however I think there needs to be major changes in the ways they operate. A person's goals, and corporations are, from what I have learned, legally considered "people", cannot simply be to grow and thrive into infinity. The PR industry feeds many of these unchanging corporations and I have decided I don't want to perpetuate that. Fire can burn a building down, but it can also heat one. I want to use it right. Success and Growth are not always synonymous... I'll try to keep that in mind during the next couple of years.
